This wonderful open-pollinated broccolini comes to us from Brazil. Heat-tolerant and also good for overwintering, as the heads are looser and have a beautiful blue-green "bloom" that repels water and mold. Midway between a head broccoli and a broccoli raab, with many small heads all over the plant which are harvested along with their delicious leaves for light cooking or salad. Sweet flavor and easy to grow--the perfect cut-and-come-again broccoli for late spring and fall. One of the only broccolis that will produce all summer if you keep cutting the florets. Easy to cook. The flavor has made it a favorite at our local farmers market, and many farmers report that their customers prefer it to domed, grocery-store broccoli. 60 seeds
Very few open-pollinated varieties of broccoli are available and even fewer of good quality. Much broccoli seed in the US is grown using Cytoplasmic Male Sterility to produce hybrid varieties. The process is considered genetic engineering in most other countries. Piricicaba is produced by traditional selection, not hybrid, not CMS.
