An heirloom reputed to have been brought to Northern California by Italian immigrants and grown in local backyards for decades. A neighbor gave this delicious bronze-tinged Romaine to Anne Van der Horck who shared it with Bountiful Gardens Seeds. It's a winter lettuce with outstanding hardiness and flavor. The bronze coloration is rare in romaines. It's a trait known to give both extra cold-hardiness and sweet flavor. We don’t know how it came to Willits, where it has survived for a long time in local backyards. This seed was grown by local seedkeeper Jeff Box in Redwood Valley. 300 seeds
