Summer Wine Zinnia
Rich red tones from watermelon through scarlet, raspberry, and crimson to burgundy. I had monarch butterflies visiting these daily all summer. Gorgeous with vegetables like corn and squash, or with amaranth, as shown. Tall zinnias are perfect in the vegetable garden as well as in borders or containers--they stand clear of the foliage, draw all kinds of pollinating and pest-eating insects, and are one of the best flowers for cutting. And give the garden a big dose of just plain joy. Butterflies LOVE them. These red tones are popular favorites, look great with either cool or hot colors, and won't fade out in blinding summer sunlight. Try it at the end of your corn blocks, against a fence, or in front of sunflowers for a wall of color. For longest bloom, you can start indoors a month early. Or I just direct-sow at the same time as corn and beans. 40 seeds.
