Free-threshing heritage bread wheat, easily harvested and used at home without equipment. It is an ancient landrace wheat hundreds of years old. Gained its reputation for drought-resistance, soil-building, and outstanding bread quality in Kansas, where it was brought by Mennonite farmers. But it's history goes back for centuries to the Caucasus Mountains. Outstanding baking quality for breads. The 3-4 ft plants have huge root systems that can find water and nutrients deep in the soil when modern varieties wither. Selected for the Slow Food Ark of Taste. Sow in fall, about a month before hard frost.
