BACK! This French heirloom has been a favorite since 1879, both for its excellent flavor and its tolerance for less-than-perfect conditions. Crunchy. Reliable, even in clay or rocky soil. Easy to pull. While it is not as juicy as the Nantes types, it keeps longer, and the solid flesh has a sweet aromatic carrot flavor that competes favorably with modern hybrids. Shorter (5-7") thick substantial roots do better than Nantes types in heavy clay soils or among stones. Good storage carrot. A classic. 70 days.
