Red-Cored Chantenay Carrot
Heirloom carrot from France. This been a favorite since 1879. Shorter (5-7") thick substantial roots do better than Nantes types in heavy clay soils or among stones. Excellent storage carrot. Tolerant of less-than-perfect conditions. While it is not as juicy as the Nantes types, it keeps longer, and the solid flesh has a sweet aromatic carrot flavor that competes favorably with modern hybrids. Crunchy. Reliable. Easy to pull. Stores well for winter. A classic. 70 days. 400 seeds.
