New York Early Onion
Originally selected from “Early Yellow Globe” by farmers in New York state. A dependable yellow storage variety. Medium sized, uniform, tight bulbs provide excellent storage into spring. In demand among chefs for its flavor. In trials on both coasts, this old favorite gave the modern hybrids a run for their money, scoring slightly less on size and storage time, with much better flavor and dependability. We always get requests for this variety, as it is hard to find and outstanding in flavor. 150 seeds
Onions are not a true root--the bulbs are in fact the leaf bases, and the roots can be seen emerging from the bottom of the onion. Unlike true roots, they need lots of fertility, and cannot withstand weed pressure. If you only weed one crop, make it your onions! Start early indoors for big firm onions. However many leaves they have in late June is how many rings your onions will have.
