Long Red Cayenne Pepper
Pre-1827 heirloom. Lots and lots of very hot peppers for drying, hot sauce, and cooking. Makes beautiful ristras (dried pepper strings) and dries easily. Early, easy to grow, and very dependable. The plant shown was in a pot on my driveway. All kinds of exotic peppers have gotten media hype lately, and seed companies are always looking for novelties, so Cayenne peppers have been shoved aside a bit. I thought it was time to bring them back to the forefront. Just plain hot peppers. 3,500–5,000 Scoville units. 25 seeds
Cayenne is the standard hot pepper for pepper flakes, powder, and seasoning. It is also the standard medicinal pepper for arthritis rubs and given in capsules for heart and circulatory issues.
