Lutz Green Leaf Beet, Winter Keeper, Longkeeper
Exceptionally sweet, even when very large, due to some sugar beet in its parentage. Keeps exceptionally well. Easy to grow. Leaves are green, mild-flavored, and prolific, like having a chard plant on top of a beet plant. Avram Drucker of Garlicana in Oregon, said, “If I had to pick only one [beet] variety for homesteading, there’s just no question that this is it.” With an early beet for summer and this long-season beet for fall and winter storage, you have months and months of sweet, ultra-nutritious eating. These can become irregular in shape when grown very large, but as you can see, there is nothing wrong with the roundness or appearance of them at moderate size. Our seed grown by Tim Van Wagner at First Rain Farm. 120 seeds
This is the true, sweet-flavored, green-leaf Lutz. Most of the seed on the market has been crossed and now most "Lutz" seed on the market has red leaves. We thank Uprising Organics for making this true strain available to us.
