Beloved for its scent and for its beauty in the landscape, lavender is one of the classic herbs. English lavender (lavender vera, or lavandula angustifolia,) is considered to have the finest scent of all the many varieties. The bushes are drought-resistant, attract myriad pollinators and beneficials, and are hardy down to zone 4, with good drainage. Beautiful for its silvery foliage even when not in flower. Doesn't lose its leaves in winter. The perfect plant for areas near the house or patio--it always looks good and you want to be able to be close enough to smell it as you brush by. Start in pots in spring. Hard to get going once the year heats up. Lavandula officinalis 100 seeds
