Mullein

Mullein's big fuzzy leaves soft and silvery, making big rosettes up to 3' across the first year, then soaring up into a spire of yellow flowers (up to 6' tall, depending on fertility) the second. Harvest the leaves for tea in the fall of the first year. Unbelievably enough, the fuzzy leaves do not put fuzz into the tea--it is pleasant, mild-tasting, and soothing. Reputed to be excellent to build up the lungs. Also used in smoking mixtures. The flowers are used in oils and tinctures as well. I once saw a woman wear a dress whose skirt was made of huge mullein leaves, overlapped like fish scales. I'm sure it didn't last more than a day, but it was spectacular. Great plant to add a vertical note in the garden. Wide leaves suppress weeds. Verbascum thapsis.200 seeds
