Onion Mill Creek Red
The best-storing, most bolt-resistant red onion we have found, this is also an heirloom with a story. Bred by local nursery owners Joe and Wanda Turi, the variety would have vanished except that I happened to see a box of them for sale at the farmer's market and ask the vendor what variety they were. He replied that they were the last of the Turi's special onion, since they had recently died. I bought all the vendor had, and took them to Ellen Bartholomew at Golden Rule Garden. She grew them to seed, and has stewarded this variety for several years, saving this heirloom from extinction. Since then, they have done well in USDA trials and with local gardeners. Mill Creek was the name of the Turi’s nursery. A Stockton Red type. Does equally well planted either spring or fall. Intermediate day-length. Our seed grown by Golden Rule Garden. 100 seeds.
