For a low-growing, permanent planting in landscape areas outside your veggie beds. The fragrant oils in the leaves boost essential oil (terpene) production in neighboring plants, while the flowers are favorites of pest-eating insects and pollinators. Important winter habitat for beneficials when your garden beds are empty in the off-season.
Great for erosion control--the herbs form a dense mat with roots that hold and protect the soil from rain, wind, and runoff. Blooms over a long period. Low-growing, to 24", with some taller flowering stems.
A perfect way to get real value from garden edges, spaces between beds, rocky spots, slopes, and other places that are awkward for regular crops. I do not recommend planting this where you will be planting crops next year because of the permanent roots. For garden beds where you'll want to plant other things later, use the Growers' Groundcover Annual Mix. For taller permanent plantings as a divider or screen, use the Hedgerow Mix.
Put the seeds into a bowl with 2 cups soil and mix well. Level and flatten the soil surface. Strew the seed mixture evenly over a 50 sq ft area. Cover very lightly and keep watered. Plants 50 sq ft. Contains Thyme, Hyssop, Oregano, Yarrow, and Alyssum saxatile.Contains at least 2000 seeds.
