Unique and beautiful wildflower for sun or dappled shade. Rosy-purple and white spires resemble lupines, but the flowers are bigger, and they bloom later in the spring. Very showy and easy. The spires of flowers, with their horizontal bottom petals like little roofs, reminded early settlers of pagodas. In the wild, with no irrigation, I see these where they get a bit of shade in the afternoons. With some supplemental water, they will do equally well in full sun. Best planted in fall in areas where the ground doesn't freeze solid; early spring in colder zones. Annual.100 seeds
