One of the nicest edible flowers, and a lovely perennial for shade. Leaves are flat, rather than tubular like regular chives, and grow to about 1/2" across. The white starlike flowers as well as the tender leaves are outstanding in salad. Gives true garlic flavor in a mild juicy form. I like this as an edible landscape plant, under fruit trees or deciduous shrubs. At home in the shadier part of the herb garden as well. Long-lived clumps spread to gradually make a blooming groundcover in moist areas. Also great in containers, either with flowers (deep-blue pansies are my favorite with this) or with salad greens. Known in Chinese cuisine as Hiro haba. Beneficial insects go crazy for this. 100 seeds
