Early Half-Tall Brussels Sprouts
This smaller strain of Brussels Sprout is easy to grow, and one of the few productive non-hybrids left. Now that we know we can roast, steam, shred, saute, or bake them, folks have rediscovered the wonderful flavor and texture that these tiny cabbages have. Not to mention the powerhouse nutrition. (I personally love them roasted and dipped in blue cheese dressing....) Anyway, plant in late spring for late fall harvest, when frost will have sweetened them. (The ones in the store are often grown in frost-free climates where they never get that sweetening.) Start and transplant like broccoli. Top the plants when the little buds start to form at the base of the leaves, to channel the plant's growth into the buds. Harvest when about an inch in diameter and firm. Mulch in summer. This semi-dwarf strain seldom needs staking unless your soil is very light, or the site is very windy. 80-90 days 80 seeds
