Cerinthe, Honeywort, Blue Shrimp Plant "Kiwi Blue"
This charmer is so elegant that I thought for years it was a hard-to-grow. Turns out to be easy and adaptable. The leaves have an elegant blue/gray/purple color, and the blue/purple flowers just keep coming on a spiral or fiddlehead stem. (It is related to borage and comfrey). Really comes into its own in fall, when the cooling temperatures bring out the blue tints in the foliage and the flower bracts. Great for cut flowers. Deer resistant. Bumble bees love it! Perennializes in mild climates, but quite easy as an annual in most of the country. Its unusual look has earned it lots of names--lead plant and Pride of Gibraltar are two more. Native to the Mediterranean, where it grows all winter. It your summers are very hot and dry, I suggest part shade. The lovely photo is by Annie's Annuals. 25 seeds.
