Lava Lamp makes heads of romaine that stay sweet even in heat. And the red swirls carry nutrient-rich anthocyanins right into the heart of the head, so this is more nutritious than regular green romaines. The photo shows this new romaine lettuce opened out so you can see the heart--the swirling red marbling goes all the way to the center. There are lots of butterheads and crispheads with red coloring, but red romaines are rare. And this swirling color is rarer still.
