Food Storage Collection
This year, your garden can provide whole meals, not just salads and treats. This collection fills the whole plate, giving you proteins, complex carbohydrates, and a wide spectrum of vitamins and minerals. We have selected crops that can be grown all over the country, and do not need canning or freezing. All can be stored either in the home, in a cool shed or cellar, or in the ground. You probably already have favorite fresh veggies. This collection is different--it gives you dependable hearty staples, from breakfast porridge to dinner chili. We will be posting recipes for these as harvest approaches.Contains: 1/4 lb dry beans, 1/4 lb storage corn (for polenta or cornmeal), and a large-size packet of amaranth (a gluten-free grain that needs no processing or even grinding--cook it like rice.) You also get standard packets of winter squash, beets, parsnips, and rutabaga.
Please note that while we suggest potatoes and garlic as great storage crops, they are not grown from seeds. Grow them from pieces of potato or cloves of garlic.
