Another original variety from farmer Ellen Bartholomew's breeding program. This is an improved Ventura type, selected for bolt-resistance and winter survival. We hot-climate gardeners are faced with a problem: celery needs water and cool temperatures for best flavor and juiciness. Ellen decided to breed a celery that could grow during the summer without special coddling, sweeten up in the fall, and survive winters in zone 7. That way, when the summer vegetables are all gone and fresh raw veggies are scarce, this celery would be sweet and juicy. Survives overnight lows down to about 15 degrees.
