An easy, tasty, and tender cooking green with juicy, crunchy midribs that can be used along with the leaf or cooked as a separate vegetable. Extremely popular traditional green in Portugal, with excellent flavor. Variously called in English, this is the Couve Tronchuda that is a mainstay in Portugal. Although the most common name in English is Portugese kale, I think it is actually a form of collards. (In Portuguese, all brassica greens are called "couve", including cabbage, kale, and tree collards.) Like all collards, it is more heat-tolerant than other brassicas, though it likes cool weather best. Probably hardy to zone 6. Brassica oleracea. 80 seeds
