A true classic. Very rare when I started out, now widely grown for both winter and summer. Winter Density is very cold-hardy, dark green, and could best be described as a small romaine--what is now becoming known as a "gem" type lettuce. Shorter romaine leaves fit a bowl or plate better than longer leaves, and are in demand for salad mix. Very deep green, buttery leaves can be used as baby leaves when young, and it makes a nice romaine head at maturity. About halfway between a standard romaine and a standard butterhead in both shape and texture. European heirloom first popularized in the US by the Abundant Life Seed Foundation. 300 seeds
