A new color in calendulas, the background is a pale-to-bright peachy pink or apricot. Petal backs are deep maroon, and a golden glow suffuses the center of the blooms. Who would have imagined the homely "pot marigold" could look so exotic? Edible and loved by pollinators, just like its more homespun cousins.
AKA Triangle Flashback, this is another of farmer/breeder Frank Morton's great new takes on familiar flowers. An OSSI-pledged open source variety. Calendulas make good cut flowers, BUT they close up in dim light, so put your vase in a sunny window or under a light. 30 seeds
The Open Source Seed Initiative exists so that breeders who originate new varieties can protect them from exploitation and patenting by corporations. It means that the breeder has freely given up patent rights in order to keep the variety in the public domain forever. The OSSI pledge reads: "You have the freedom to use these OSSI-pledged seeds in any way you choose. In return, you pledge not to restrict others' use of these seeds or their derivatives, by patents or other means, and to include this pledge in any transfer of these seeds or their derivatives."
