The shape and size of a typical jalapeno, but purple instead of green, and better adapted to unfavorable weather. The thick meaty flesh and cherry-red juice make them perfect for pickling or roasting, and also for sweet/hot preparations--pepper jam, barbecue sauce, even candied slices. The 2½"–long conical peppers ripen from deep purple to lustrous garnet-red, and you can use them at either stage. Not quite as hot as a classic jalapeno, 2,000–5,000 Scoville Unit. s25 seeds
