I'm excited to be able to offer this high-yielding, easy-to-grow heirloom bean. Dependable in the garden--even in maritime or short-season areas--and delicious in the kitchen. A classic Italian borlotto type from the mountainous part of Tuscany, with early maturity. Mild flavor makes it versatile in recipes. In Italy, it is often served with pasta or just by itself with herbs and olive oil, but it adapts well to other cuisines, from refried to baked beans and even hummus. Beautiful red speckles and streaks on a cream to tan background. A great, versatile staple for the self-sufficient gardener.

Borlotto beans (borlotti) are similar to horticultural or cranberry beans and are a staple in Italian and Portuguese home cooking. They have a mild flavor and creamy texture. Excellent both as a shelly bean (shelled out of the pod when full-size but not dry) or as a dry storage bean. Easy to grow and adaptable. This one is not round like some others, but oblong.
