Spearmint
The oldest and most widely used of the mints--gentle, relaxing, and versatile. This is also the best mint for cooking; classic with lamb, in salads like tabouli, and with cucumbers as a cooling summer pick me up. Delicious ingredient of "bedtime" teas, mint juleps, and fruit salads. The tea is effective to soothe the stomach and dispel nausea, and is often combined with chamomile for a relaxing and delicious evening cup. Like all mints, the seeds need light for germination. Just press into the top of tamped soil in a pot and keep very moist and in the light. Like all mints, it spreads by runners just under the surface. Naturalizes well in orchards, grasslands, streambanks, and other semi-wild areas. In the garden, it should be contained in a pot or by barriers. (or mowing) Dries well for winter us. Mentha spicata. 100 seeds
