Lobelia
Lobelia is another of the important herbs in our tradition that were taught to Europeans by Native American healers. It is an overwintering annual from the eastern and central US. The tinctured seeds are used in very low doses as an anti-spasmodic and in larger doses as a purgative. Lobelias are at home in a spot with semi-shade, and very moist, rich soil. Sow seed in spring or fall. Sprinkle seed on surface, tamp securely and keep evenly moist and in the light until germination. The tricky part is to keep the soil moist while not disturbing the tiny seeds by top watering; you will probably want to grow in a flat or pot and water from the bottom or use a mister. Other than than, the seeds are not difficult, and usually appear in 1-3 weeks in a warm location. (Another good reason to start in the fall or indoors.) Lobelia inflata. 500 seeds
