Italian Large-Leaf Basil
A traditional Sweet Basil that's a bit more cold-hardy than Genovese; this really shines at the beginning and end of the season. Faster sprouting in cool soil, faster growth in spring, and longer-lasting in fall. Tall 18"-24" plants with glossy leaves have the vigor to cope with less-than-perfect conditions. Popular in the Pacific Northwest and maritime areas. Needs less heat to develop a pleasant flavor and aroma. In hot weather, our strain of Genovese has a stronger richer, flavor. Long-leaf's is similar, but slightly lighter and sweeter, with a slight citrus top-note. I team them up for a long season. Long-lasting in a jar of water, this is my favorite addition to summer bouquets to add luscious scent to a room.
