A trouble-free perennial and ornamental edible, this is probably the most adaptable to difficult growing conditions of any plant I know. Hardy perennial, adapted to zones 4-8. Microgeens and young leaves used for salad. Older plants form handsome and long-lived clumps of beautiful bluish foliage with clusters of small crimson flowers in summer. A traditional addition to salads and blended into creamy dressings because of its refreshing cucumber flavor. I think it has possibilities as an edible ground cover or edging in the landscape. I've seen this growing between cracks in the sidewalk in 100-degree heat, and on highway shoulders, along with mullein, which enjoys similar conditions of sun and good drainage. (I've seen burnet in bogs too, but that may be a different species. Still, they are adaptable.) The Latin name, Sanguisorba, comes from it's ability to stop the flow of blood. This has been used as a wound dressing and tea for to stop blood loss since ancient times. 60 seeds
