Candystick Dessert Delicata Squash
Bred by Carol Deppe, and Nate France to be sweeter than other delicatas, with a smaller seed cavity that gives more flesh per squash. They really are like a dessert, with a very sweet rich flavor reminiscent of dates. Long-keeping for a delicata, so you can eat them longer into the winter. (Keeping ability requires skin a bit thicker, so be aware of this if you like to eat skin and all.) Carol's book The Tao of Vegetable Gardening tells the story of how she and Nate France bred this squash, with mishaps and strokes of luck along the way. Tan with green stripes, rather than the usual pale yellow. Pledged as an OSSI open-source variety.
