Large, tender leaves for pesto, sauces, salads, and infused oils (which preserve the flavor better than drying.) This has the classic rich scent that is utterly unique--makes you understand why "basil" means "king" in Greek. Sow in warm conditions, either indoors or after the soil is warm in the garden. Compost and adequate water will produce bigger, lusher leaves and more of them. Flowers are loved by bees and beneficials, but flowering puts and end to leaf production. Best to succession-sow a few every couple of weeks. Keeping plants clipped helps too--if you don't need that much for pesto, what could be a nicer bouquet? Ocimum basilicum 300 seeds
