Gorgeous red frilly leaves and edible purple flowers with complex flavors of cinnamon, spice, anise, and basil. One of the eight major spices of Japanese cuisine, used to color and flavor ginger, pickles, sushi, rice, and now items like cocktails, jellies, and juices.
