Purple Blush Tomatillo
A real find, this is a sweeter tomatillo that is tasty raw or on its own as well as cooked in the usual savory dishes. Green fruits blush purple where the sun hits them. Easy and trouble-free additions to the summer garden, these produce a lot in a small area with few inputs. Essential for salsa, green enchiladas, pork stew, and myriad other dishes, they are also good in salad when fully ripe. They also make a great chutney, ketchup, or any other spicy preserve, and can add a fresh note to pasta sauces. These are so easy to grow and yield so well, there's no reason not to tuck a few into odd corners. (Not just one--they're self-sterile and need a pollinator!) Tomatillos keep pretty well in their papery husks in a basket on the counter, too--a sterling trait in a summer vegetable. 25 seeds
