Wild Oregano
One of the best herbal groundcovers--tall enough that most weeds don't come through, hardy in zones 5-9, frangrant, useful in cooking and remedies, and covered with huge clusters of pink flowers for months. Carefree in full sun (or part shade in very hot areas), somewhat drought-tolerant, and always a magnet for native bees, honeybees, butterflies, and beneficial insects of all kinds. I have this beneath roses and in a semi-wild hedgerow. Both are delightful. Flowers are on long enough stems for cutting, and keep well in a vase. They are followed by decorative chains of seed pods and bracts that are good in dried arrangements or wreaths. Forms a mat up to 3 ft wide and a foot tall, with flowering stems twice that high. Flavor is different than Greek Oregano, milder and sweeter, which makes it a bit more versatile with pasta, meat, fish, and cheese dishes. 200 seeds
