Cornetto Escarole

A very cold-hardy escarole for fall salads and braising, with crunchy white midribs and in a tall self-blanching head. Hardiest of the escaroles., their tall "romaine" shape keeps the leaves cleaner and more free of slugs than more sprawling types. Flavor is outstanding, very mild and excellent for salads. The heavy heads are a standby for homegrown salads over the winter holidays. This is the Italian strain of France's Cornet de Bordeaux, a European winter staple. The slightly bitter lettucy flavor and texture of this escarole is a great contrast to the numerous mustardy brassicas that dominate the winter garden. 150 seeds.
