Eschscholzia californica. Rich glowing-gold satiny flowers 2” wide, and blue-gray, fernlike leaves on 8-24” plants. Tolerates light frost and drought, blooms all summer with minimal water. Non-narcotic sedative, tea or syrup for coughs. These don't care for clay, so if your soil is heavy, work in some compost and some gravel. Give them good drainage and they will often live for several years. Best planted in fall in areas where the ground doesn't freeze solid; early spring in colder zones.
