We think this is the best-tasting bush bean. Delicious also as green shelly beans, once the beans have sized up in the pods. Heavy producer. These dramatic beans always catch people's eye at the farmer's market, but it is the sweet flavor and juicy-crisp, non-fibrous texture that make them a favorite year after year. Heirloom from the 1900's has 8”, flat, creamy yellow pods with thin purple stripes (which disappear with cooking). Crisp pods stay tender and sweet even when very large. Impossible for commercial production, as the pods are so juicy that they wilt when shipped. The non-fibrous crisp texture puts this into the wax bean category, though most wax beans are round and have less flavor. Truly excellent, no matter what you call it.
