Heritage Spring Wheat Red Fife
An heirloom bread wheat that originated in Central Europe, and gained its present name and reputation in Scotland and Canada. It is renowned for its sweet flavor and excellent bread-making properties. Almost awnless, for easy handling and threshing. Another heritage wheat that once fed large populations but has been displaced by modern "Green Revolution" wheats bred for heavy use of chemicals and machinery. Red Fife has been rescued and preserved by farmers, gardeners, and bakers who love its quality. Grown at Golden Rule Garden.
