Scarlet Ohno Turnip
Back! Gorgeous red turnips are only half the story. These are also worth growing for the leaves--glossy-smooth, mild, and juicy, with excellent flavor. I hope you'll give these a try. Since I live in zone 7 and turnips overwinter for me, I've been planting more turnips lately and less kale. They grow faster, they are more tender, and I get big harvests in a short time. Turnip greens have a flavor that's bold but complex, and goes well with cheese, cured meats, curries, and other rich flavors. The flower shoots in spring are sweet, tender and prolific. Plus they have a nice purple-red-or-pink color. This strain is Frank Morton's re-selection of a Japanese red turnip, selected with smooth, hairless productive greens in mind in addition to round crunchy roots. 45 days greens, 55 days roots. OSSI pledged open source variety, grown for us by the breeder. 120 seeds
