Perennial Butterfly Garden Kit
These are plants that have nurtured butterflies for millennia, and come back year after year. Includes a page of instructions on how to attract and nurture butterflies. These are primarily hardy American natives like Milkweed, as well as showy, nectar-producing flowers like Maltese Cross and Asters. This collection provides a long season of bloom, and is easy to care for. It is best to plan on planting an area at least 4'x4', to make it easy for the butterflies to find your flowers, and worthwhile for them to stay. Perennials are slower to get started than annual flowers, but will be trouble-free their second year and thereafter. Hardy all the way from zone 3 to zone 9.
Includes 6 packets of seed and 2 pages of helpful hints.
If you don't already have chives in your garden, I suggest adding them, because they bloom very early, when the monarchs are first arriving from Mexico. (I'm not putting them in the collection.) Find them HERE. Other very early bloomers include weeds like chickweed and henbit that flower in late winter. All of the brassica/cabbage/mustard/arugula tribe of vegetables will flower early in spring after overwintering in the garden, and butterflies love their nectar.
