A high-quality spinach known for it's delicious flavor and deep green color. Merlo Nero means "blackbird" in Italian because its such a dark green. Its savoyed (crumpled) texture gives it extra frost-hardiness in the garden. In salad, the texture holds on to dressing and keeps the leaves from packing down or sticking together. Texture and hardiness make Merlo Nero the star of the winter salad garden. Great flavor a makes it a star in cooked dishes. Another great Italian open-pollinated variety.
