- Broccoli and Cima di Rapa
These are listed in order of readiness. The purely leaf habit of Spigarello is ready sooner than the florets of sprouting and heading broccoli. The Purple Sprouting broccoli overwinters to make lots of florets in late winter and early spring, as does the Seven Top Turnip. Using this palette of varieties, you can have broccoli or broccolini all year, from spring through summer, fall, winter, and even during the "hunger gap" the next spring.
Flavors run from sweeter than grocery store broccoli (Piricicaba, Purple Sprouting, Umpqua) to more complex and assertive (Quarantina, Novantina and Seven Top.)
